Dangote Refinery IPO: Kwairanga Urges East African Investors to Fuel Africa’s Future with Local Capital

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) has called on East African investors to seize the opportunity presented by the upcoming Dangote Petroleum Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO), describing it as a pivotal moment for the continent’s economic independence.

Speaking at a high-level investor engagement held at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday, Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, Chairman of the NGX Group, praised the visionary leadership of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, emphasizing that the refinery project represents a shift away from reliance on “expensive and fickle foreign loans” toward locally sourced capital.

“We have seen how he has led Nigeria’s turnaround from a cement importing nation to one that is self-sufficient and even exports the product. Now he is doing the same in fertilizer and petroleum products,” Kwairanga stated, referring to Dangote’s industrial track record.

Kwairanga noted that the planned Dangote facility in Kenya is poised to replicate the transformational impact of the refinery in Lagos, positively affecting the entire East African region.

He situated the investment drive within a broader Pan-African context, citing the advocacy of Kenyan President William Ruto and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for African nations to unite in solving developmental challenges.

“I invite our East African investors to key into this vision and give leaders like this the capital and support to take Africa to another higher level of development,” Kwairanga urged the gathering. “You will be making a good investment decision for yourself and for future generations of Africans.”
